A busy day for the war buffs.
Germany invaded Poland today in 1939, effectively bringing Britain and France into war against Germany. Neville Chamberlain who had embarked on a course of appeasement with Hitler, announced in a speech on the 3rd September that a state of war existed between Britain and Germany.
Chamberlain was bitterly disappointed that his attempts at making peace had failed. Of Hitler he said; “His action shows convincingly that there is no chance of expecting that this man will ever give up his practice of using force to gain his will. He can only be stopped by force.”
It would take some six years and the loss of over 50 million lives to stop this man.
