Perhaps one the world’s most nuanced ethical thinkers was born this day in 1874 in Munich to a Jewish mother and a Lutheran father. Max Scheler developed a philosophy of love and our understanding of feelings as the basis of all ethics.
Scheler argued that it is impossible for us today to simply reject God and claim to be atheists because our culture and society is so impregnated by Judeo-Christian values that we are unable to conceive a world or social life outside of these bounds.
This Serendipiday blog is the proof of Scheler’s thesis.
