The October revolution in Russia began on this day in 1917 when Bolsheviks stormed the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. The Russians are usually late with things, even their revolutions. Oh and it also happens to be Leon Trotsky’s birthday today. Born Lev Davidovich Bronshtein in 1879, Trotsky espoused a global and perpetual revolution using a vanguard to lead it and fell foul of Stalin’s murderous paranoia. He was eventually killed with an ice axe in Mexico in 1940.
