John Milton, the English poet and author of “Paradise Lost” was born this day in London in 1608. Milton married thrice and went blind in his dotage. This long poem is about civil war in heaven and reflects Milton’s experiences of civil war in Britain.
The curious irony in Milton’s writing is that whilst he was a militant supporter of civil war and regicide in Britain, he chose to write verse that supports heavenly monarchy and disparage civil war amongst the angels.
