Today In Fact, 16 October

I once had a friend, Debbie at University who was studying medicine. After some years of friendship we considered an affair but I was rejected with the following words: “I love your mind, but your body….”. We are no longer friends.

Debbie went on to become an established anaesthetist in Johannesburg.

I mention this only because today in 1846 the idea of painless surgery was first demonstrated by Doctor William TG Morgan at Massachusetts General Hospital. In his honour today is recognized World Anaesthesia Day.

The next challenge perhaps is to find a means to dull emotional pain?
